Become a Publicity and Fundraising Officer for Oxford Nightline
Are you interested in volunteering for us, but want to help out in aspects other than listening? You can still make a difference by joining our Publicity, Fundraising and Outreach team and becoming a non-listening volunteer, and help ensure every student in Oxford knows they’re never alone.
Our application window for Michaelmas Term 2026 / Semester 1 is now open. Apply here before 17th October. Once you submit the application form, you will be contacted to attend an informal interview with our Coordinators and/or Head of Publicity. Interviews will be conducted between 18th – 31st October.

What is a non-listening volunteer?
A non-listening volunteer is not trained to take calls, but contributes to expanding the work we do here at Oxford Nightline. To become a non-listening volunteer, you should apply for the position of a Publicity and Fundraising Officer. In this role, you will act as an ambassador for Nightline by talking to students and organising events in their colleges and departments to raise awareness about our service.
It is not a large time commitment – you can do as much or as little as you have time for – and there are lots of opportunities to learn valuable skills and play a leading role in informing our publicity and fundraising strategies.
Please note that, if you become a non-listening volunteer for Oxford Nightline, you will not be able to train to become a listening volunteer at any point in the future. This is because non-listening volunteers act as public faces for our organisation, and their identities are not anonymous to the student population at Oxford. They can and are encouraged to tell everyone they know that they volunteer for Nightline, and may represent Nightline at in-person events or on social media. Listening volunteers’ identities should be anonymous, in order to maintain the anonymity of our service.
What is the application process to become a non-listening volunteer?
Step 1: Apply to become a Publicity and Fundraising Officer
Applications for Publicity and Fundraising Officers open in October, January, and April each academic year. The current round of applications close on Saturday 17th October.

If the deadline has passed, you can fill out the application form anyway, and we will be in touch in the weeks leading up to the next application cycle!
Step 2: Attend an interview
After you submit the application form, the Coordinators and/or Head of Publicity will email you to arrange an interview. The interview will be a brief, informal chat about your experiences, skills, and ideas, so we can better understand how you may fit into the Publicity team at Nightline.
In October 2026, interviews will take place between Sunday 18th October and Saturday 31st October. You will hear about the outcome of your application within a week of the interview.
Step 3: Attend an induction
If accepted as a Publicity and Fundraising Officer, you will be invited to attend an induction to understand the service and your role in it, and to meet some other volunteers you will be working with.
In the upcoming application cycle, inductions will take place in early November.
Once you are inducted, you may begin your work with us – represent us at in-person events to speak to students about our service, make posts on social media, handle communications with university bodies, or create your own campaigns!
